Chef Shorne Benjamin · Fat Fowl · February to September 2026
We stopped pitching a restaurant and pitched a country.
Shorne Benjamin had a viral oxtail grilled cheese and a Food Network credit. That gets a chef into listicles. It does not get him a national tourism authority, a government news release, or a seat at a regional retail group’s table. Repositioning him from Brooklyn restaurateur to Saint Lucian culinary ambassador did all three.

The repositioning
A viral chef is a food story. An ambassador is a national story.
Chef Shorne’s existing press was restaurant press: Brooklyn openings, a viral sandwich, a Beat Bobby Flay appearance. Good coverage, and a ceiling. Food desks want new restaurants, and he had already opened his.
The asset nobody was using was the birth certificate. He is Saint Lucian, trained at the French Culinary Institute, and built New Age Caribbean Cuisine out of his grandmother’s kitchen on the island. Framed that way he is not a chef seeking coverage. He is a country’s most visible culinary export, and that makes him useful to institutions with budgets: a tourism board, a festival, a regional supermarket chain.
Every placement below runs on that frame.

Stop asking food editors for a favor. Start giving institutions a reason to need your client.
The anchor · Hot Ones Caribbean
One episode, timed to a heritage month and a head of tourism.
TEMPO Networks is the only pan-Caribbean broadcast network, reaching 24 island territories plus diaspora markets across the United States. We placed Chef Shorne in its flagship format, then built the surrounding architecture so a single episode behaved like a campaign.
The premiere landed on June 1, the opening day of Caribbean-American Heritage Month, with the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority attached as partner. Nothing about that date was incidental.
The b-roll package
TEMPO’s producer needed a full asset list to cut the episode. We managed the request end to end against a hard April deadline, including the chase, so the edit stayed on schedule.
Government of Saint Lucia
The Tourism Authority announcement ran on the official government news portal, carrying a quote from CEO Louis Lewis on culinary tourism and one from the chef. Institutional validation, four days before air.
Premiere
8 PM EST across TEMPO’s regional and international platforms plus YouTube, on the first day of Caribbean-American Heritage Month. Picked up same day by Saint Lucia First and Calabash TV.
Five-way cross-post
We built and distributed the promo package: vertical liners cut with premiere-date tags, delivered to a five-way cross-posting plan across the chef, the network, the show, the Tourism Authority and our own channels.

The number
Three point one million, and we will not round it up.
Press impressions are reported as an outlet’s documented audience treated as the potential reach of a placement. We count only what a publisher, station or media kit actually states. Everything else sits at zero until a real figure arrives, which is why this total is lower than it could be and more useful than it would otherwise be.
| Placement | Basis | Impressions |
|---|---|---|
| TEMPO Networks | Network-stated audience of approximately 3 million across 24 island territories, plus Cablevision channel 1105 in the New York tristate area | 3,000,000 |
| Caribbean National Weekly | 100,000-plus weekly readers, plus eNewsletter, WAVS 1170AM and CNW TV | 100,000 |
| Fox 5 WNYW | New York is the number one US media market at roughly 7.5 million television households. Air date confirmation and Nielsen daypart delivery needed before this is counted. | Pending |
| Government of Saint Lucia | No published audience figure. Requested. | Pending |
| Saint Lucia First | No published audience figure. Requested. | Pending |
| Saint Lucia Tourism Authority | Owned-channel reach held by the Authority. Requested. | Pending |
| Calabash TV | No published audience figure. Requested. | Pending |
| YouTube episode | Post-level views accrue over time. Pull from TEMPO’s channel analytics. | Pending |
| Total | Two placements with a documented audience basis | 3,100,000 |
The largest single lift available here is the Fox 5 segment. Confirming it aired and requesting the Nielsen daypart figure would move this total past ten million on its own, which is why it sits at zero rather than at an estimate.
Beyond press
Coverage was the proof. The partnerships were the point.
Editorial raises a profile. It does not pay a chef. Once the ambassador frame was established and validated by the Tourism Authority, we took it into rooms where it converts.
- Regional retail
- Built and presented a six-pillar corporate partnership proposal to Massy Stores Saint Lucia, the island’s leading supermarket chain, covering brand ambassadorship, digital cooking content, signature product collaborations, community culinary initiatives, seasonal campaigns, and tourism and luxury market opportunities. We opened the door cold through Massy Group marketing leadership in Port of Spain, ran a discovery call with the division head in Saint Lucia, then delivered the proposal and a tiered commercial breakdown. Currently in review.
- Festival placement
- Confirmed as featured chef at the Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival 2026, in the Icon Series gala programming. The appearance became content inside the Hot Ones episode rather than a standalone booking, so one placement did two jobs.
- Homecoming narrative
- The episode includes the chef returning to his alma mater on the island to mentor culinary students. That segment is what turns a hot sauce format into something a tourism authority and a government portal will both carry.
- Broadcast, New York
- Booked Fox 5 WNYW’s Good Night New York for February 2, opening the engagement with a hometown-market segment before the Caribbean strategy went live.
- Institutional pipeline
- Opened a chef partner track with Wellness in the Schools, a national nonprofit placing chefs in public school kitchens. Warm and unconverted, it is the clearest available route to a recurring civic credential rather than a one-off booking.
- Syndicated quotes
- Secured standing access to a national food outlet’s chef quote series, with attribution to “Chef Shorne Benjamin, founder of Fat Fowl” and links to the restaurant on every placement. Low effort, repeatable, and the fastest backlink volume available to a single-location restaurant.
What this is worth
The frame outlasts the campaign.
A restaurant profile is spent the day it runs. An ambassadorship compounds: the Tourism Authority partnership makes the festival booking easier, the festival footage makes the episode richer, the episode makes the retail proposal credible, and a signed retail deal would make the next tourism cycle automatic.
That is the difference between buying coverage and building position. Coverage is a cost line. Position is an asset the client still owns next year.
Six months in, the client’s strongest asset is not a clipping. It is a relationship with a government.
Caribbean heritage brands do not need a vendor. They need someone already in the room.
Playbook MG is a boutique public relations and influencer agency in Brooklyn, working with Caribbean heritage and culture-rooted brands across beauty, food and beverage, fashion, entertainment, arts and nonprofits. Every door in this campaign, from the pan-Caribbean network to the regional retail group, opened through a relationship we already held.
